To Become a Member of Brisbane Bushwalkers Club 

 

If you are interested in joining Brisbane Bushwalkers Club:

You must be over 18 years of age.

Follow this link to complete the on-line registration form MEMBERSHIP REGISTRATION

Read and agree to the Terms and Conditions and Acknowledgement of Risk form during the registration process.

Pay the membership fee of $40.00, following the instructions provided during the registration process.

New Members pay the same annual fee as Ordinary Members, for the membership year of 1 January - 31 December, and may be renewed in the period 1st December - 28th February each year.

New Members joining in October, November and December of a year will be regarded as financial until December of the following year.

On receipt of your application form and payment of your membership fee, you will be emailed a BBW Members Handbook, and further information about your first walk. Please allow a few days.

You will be advised by email when your membership is activated. Please allow a few days.

As a Probationary Member, you will then have access to the Club Activities Calendar and be able to nominate for a New Member Induction walk. These are held regularly, and one must be completed before you go on any other Club walks.

At the New Member Induction, you will be instructed on the Club processes, what to take on a walk, the BBW grading system, safety in the bush, the bushwalkers' code of conduct, and other topics to ensure your walking experience is safe and enjoyable.

 

Probationary Membership and Applying for Ordinary Membership

Ordinary members pay a yearly subscription. They are entitled to vote, to stand for committee positions, and to apply to become  walk leaders.

Probationary members that have completed a New Member Induction and 4 other walks, excluding training walks, may apply for Ordinary membership.

Probationary membership may be renewed as often as necessary until the requirements to upgrade to Ordinary membership have been fulfilled. The Club does not impose a time limit. 

When you are ready to apply for Ordinary membership:

  • Check your walk history on the website to determine if you have completed the necessary walks.
  • Advise the Registrar that you wish to apply by sending an email to registrar@brisbanebushwalkers.org.au
  • The Registrar will verify your eligibility. 
  • The Registrar will then update your membership record to Ordinary and notify you by email. You can also check this on your Club profile when you log in ti the website. Please allow 1-2 weeks.

 

Membership Renewal

Membership fees are reviewed each year at the AGM in October, and any changes to fees are set at this meeting.

Membership must be renewed each year and fees must be paid within the quarter 1 December - 28 February.

Renewals open from 1st December for the following year.

Unfinancial members may not participate in Club activities. 

Ordinary Membership   $40.00

Life Membership             $0

 

Payment Methods

To renew your membership, please follow the link to MEMBERSHIP REGISTRATION

You may elect to pay either through the payment gateway or by bank transfer.

The preferred method of payment is though the BBW website payment gateway.

No card details are retained by Brisbane Bushwalkers during this process.

There is no surcharge for using this method.

Your membership record will be updated automatically and immediately upon approval of your payment.

 

Payment by bank transfer may take up to seven days as it will need to be processed manually by the Club Registrar.

There are often a lot of fees to process in January and February, so please make renewal payments early.

Re-Nomination for Former and Unfinancial Members   

Former members or members that have not renewed their membership by the due date (28th February), may reactivate their membership.

If you know your log in user email or used ID, you can renew through the Renew link on the website, and pay as per the Payment Methods above.

If you do not know your login details and have difficulty logging in, please email the Registrar registrar@brisbanebushwalkers.org.au and provide your contact details (name, address, email, phone number) so that the Registrar can find your previous membership in the database, and advise you further.

 

Becoming a Leader

If you are a member thinking of becoming a leader, then start the process with a chat with leaders you meet on walks or a Committee member.

Leaders must be full members that have participated in at least15 Club walks, excluding training walks. All aspiring leaders must attend a leader training course, which are run a couple of times a year. Contact the Safety and Training Officer for more information. training@brisbanebushwalkers.org.au
